Hot Event Venue Spotlight: Pilot House Restaurant & Marina. : My Visit Review :

I love date night with my husband. From Broward county down to the Keys, we enjoy trying different venues that our tri-county has to offer. We’ll try everything twice!

Last night’s date night brought us to The Pilot House Restaurant and Marina in Key Largo, Florida.

We chose to forego our regular Largo hot spots and try this waterfront restaurant and “Glass Bottom Bar.” -So glad we did!

Once we arrived at Pilot House, we found that they offered a large outdoor seating area on their dock and an even larger, indoor, air-conditioned seating area too. Not wanting to miss the Glass Bottom Bar, we found our way into the more casual outdoor seating and the friendly hostess sat us at a high top right on the water. So close in fact, Raul was afraid he or his new iPhone would end up in the water!

Amenary, our waitress (sorry if I misspelled it), was eager and quick to please. She was fast to keep the beer flowing and checked in on us enough to know if we needed anything, but not too much as to intrude on our date night.

I had the inside scoop on what to order and took charge when the time came. Raul trusts my judgement, I have yet to steer him wrong on a restaurant/pub pick or menu choice. What I was told was truth!

We started with the smoked fish dip served with three pepperoncini and flat bread. You could taste the “smokiness” of the puréed fish and it paired wonderfully with the seasoned flat bread rather than the standard -chips. The appetizer was enough for us to share- no complaints!

For dinner we ordered the Mahi Tacos and Mahi “Harvey style” sandwich- both grilled and blackened, as Amenary suggested. The Mahi Tacos were served with black beans and a yellow rice. While for a nominal fee more- I swapped out the french fries for beer battered-sweet onion rings to accompany my fish sammie. Incredible! The Mahi was blackened and grilled just perfectly. The black beans were quite tasty- considering I love cuban-style black beans, this says it all. The cole slaw is the best I have ever had and the onion rings were crispy and sweet. Delectable!

Happy hour was pretty much over by the time we sat down for dinner, but the pricing on the draft beer was phenomenal! I was expecting a heftier bar tab considering it is the Keys and it is a nice waterfront place.

As a sweet ending, we had a slice of their home-made Key Lime Pie and their Peanut Butter Pie to share. The Peanut Butter Pie was to die for! Raul isn’t much for peanut butter, but this PB Pie is a creamy whipped concoction served on a cookie crust that no one should pass up on and all who visit the Pilot House must leave room for. Trust!

Tip: Indoor seating is more suitable for families, larger groups and groups with young children.

We can’t wait to go back and try their calamari and “Pilot House” style fish sandwich. If you head out to Key Largo, give the Pilot House a try and let me know how much you love it- I know I do!
